McMullen County golfers show improvement

The McMullen County Cowgirls and Cowboys golf teams competed in the Alsation Novice tournament in Castroville on Monday, March 5.

As a team, the Cowgirls finished in fourth place. Individually, freshman Emery Robles finished ninth, shooting a 112. Freshman Kelsey Gonzales tied for 10th with a 113 on the day. Freshman Schon Edwards shot 117 to finish in 21st.

Junior Ashley Miller shot a 121, placing 25th. Baily Dawson shot 125, finishing 27th. Freshman Kaylie Measels tied for 28th after shooting 126. Freshman Jaycee Wheat shot a 127, finishing 34th.

The Cowboys team finished third overall in Castroville. Individually, sophomore Garrett Blaha shot a 96, finishing tied for ninth. Sophomore Cayden Turner and junior Tristan Voldan each shot 102, tying for 13th place. Junior Dustin Allen finished in 20th place after shooting a 107. Junior Logan Ridgeway was 25th, shooting 108. Junior Colton McCartney shot a 110 to finish in 29th. Sophomore Cotton Harris was 30th, shooting 113.

March 21, the teams headed to Harlandale for a tournament. The Cowgirls finished fourth as a team.

Gonzales and Measels tied for eighth, shooting 107. Robles and Wheat finished tied for 18th place, each shooting 112. Edwards shot a 115 to finish 22nd. Miller finished in 30th after shooting 121. Dawson was 34th, shooting 125.

The Cowboys finished seventh as a team. Blaha finished 23rd after shooting a 96. Voldan was 35th, shooting 110. Ridgeway shot 113 to finish 38th. Allen finished 46th after shooting 117. Harris and Tristan Alexander tied for 54th, each shooting 130.

At the District 32A tournament, held Tuesday, April 3, the Cowgirls won the district championship as a team.

Miller shot a 107, finishing with the silver medal individually. Measels shot a 109. Edwards finished with a score of 113, Wheat shot 114. Dawson tallied a 118. Robles shot 119. Gonzales finished with a score of 128.

The Cowboys also won the team district championship. Turner shot 89 to earn the individual silver medal. Ridgeway shot 93. Blaha finished with a score of 97. Allen finished with a score of 100. McCartney tallied a score of 101. Voldan finished with a 105. Alexander shot 111. Harris shot 119.
