McMullen County hosts, races in XC meet

The McMullen County Cowgirls and Cowboys cross country teams hosted their cross country meet Wednesday, Oct. 3.

The junior high Cowgirls finished in second place as a team. Individually, Madison West finished fifth. Ryleigh Kuehlem was sixth. Shelby Slavinski ran to a 10th place finish. Rylee Stendebach finished in 14th position. Marissa Blanco recorded a 15th place finish. Jayden Jones was 16th.

The junior high boys’ Blue team took home the team championship. Shawn Heritage finished in seventh place overall. Brayden Serrata ran to a 10th place finish. Byron Huerta finished right behind Serrata in 11th place. Ryan Trudeau was 12th. Kaiyden Inman finished 14th.

The junior high boys’ White team took home the bronze. Roel Gamez led the White team with a 15th place finish. Diego Delgado was 20th. Jody Belz ran to a 21st place finish. Monty Miller finished 22nd. Luke Ridgeway was 23rd.

The junior varsity boys were the meet champions. Colton DeSpain, Dustin Goodrum and Graham Blaha swept the podium, taking home the gold, silver and bronze medals. Cade Royal and Garrett Blaha finished fourth and fifth, respectively, giving the team the top five finishers in the division.

The varsity Cowgirls finished second in the meet to George West by just four points. Caeli Taylor finished first overall. Ashley Miller ran to an 11th place finish. Makenzie Scherer finished 15th. Charity Harris finished right behind in 16th. Chloe Taylor recorded a 19th place finish.

The varsity Cowboys took home third place as a team, behind Nordheim and Three Rivers. Dustin Allen took home a silver medal. Logan Ridgeway ran to a seventh place finish. Cayden Turner finished 22nd. Rudy Mesa finished 27th. Sam Giovengo took home a 28th place finish.

“All of the athletes worked hard, and competed well,” Coach Tony Taylor said.  

The teams will host the District 32-A meet on Thursday, Oct. 11.

“We encourage everyone to come out and support our teams as we strive to bring home the district championships in all divisions,” Taylor said.
