Counselor

Kelly James and FamilyWelcome to the McMullen County ISD Counselor’s Page!  My name is Kelly James and I am the school counselor.

I grew up right down the road in Three Rivers and have been a Live Oak County girl all of my life!  After graduation, I attended Texas A&M University in College Station and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a certificate in Secondary Social Studies.   I received my master’s degree from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in School Counseling. I taught 8th grade U.S. History for five years at George West Jr. High and was the high school counselor at George West High School for the past 22 years.  I have vast experience at the secondary level in vocational and career counseling, dual credit, the college application process, college entrance exams, the scholarship application process, scheduling high school courses for college and career success, and individual counseling.

My husband, Pat, grew up in George West and is also a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station.  During his time at Texas A&M, he was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie  Baseball team. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology.  He obtained his master’s degree from Texas A&M- Corpus Christi in School Administration.   He coached at George West ISD for 10  years and is currently the Principal at George West Primary and Elementary School. He has served as the principal at these campuses for 22 years.

My daughters, Whitley and Shelby, are my pride and joy.  My oldest daughter, Whitley, graduated from Texas A&M University in College Station in December of 2013 with a degree in Animal Science.  She will graduate from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in May of 2018.  While at Texas A&M, Whitley was a member of the National Champion Wool Judging Team and was the Vice President of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council.  She was also an Aggie Rep for the Animal Science Department. Shelby, my youngest daughter, graduated from George West High School as the Valedictorian in May of 2014.  While in high school, Shelby was named a National Coca-Cola Scholar, a Texas FFA Ford Scholar, an Area X FFA officer, and participated at the National level in FFA Livestock Judging, Legal Office Procedures in BPA, and was a delegate to National 4-H Congress representing Texas 4-H. She will graduate from Texas A&M University in May of 2018 as a Business Honors major.  While at Texas A&M University, she became the first woman in the history of the university to be named Chief Justice of the Judicial Court of the Student Government Association.  She was also named a Gathright Scholar graduating as the outstanding senior of Mays Business School.

This year I will continue to introduce character education at the elementary level, career awareness at the Jr. High level, and continue the strong standard of excellence of career, college, and scholarship opportunities at the high school level.
